The W\u00fcrzburg master builder Balthasar Neumann took over the planning and construction management, who at the behest of the Prince-Bishop Cardinal Damian Hugo von Sch\u00f6nborn had this imposing structure built on the former site of the cemetery. \u201cHe began to build the old St. Peters parish church based on the model of the Peters church in Rome,\u201d says Bruchsal chronicler Thierry. A crypt was created under the church, which served as a burial place for Sch\u00f6nborn and the subsequent bishops of Speyer. Fortunately, the baroque church of St. Peter survived the terrible bombing of March 1, 1945 without damage and therefore still impresses its visitors today as a baroque masterpiece with the contemporary attitude to life of yesteryear.<\/p>\n

In 2013 the idea was born to set up a small museum for Count Kuno, the symbolic figure of the Bruchsal Carnival. Just one year later, the first visitors could be welcomed in the old vineyard cottage on the Andreasstaffel. On display are exhibits that are associated with Count Kuno. Find out interesting and new things from the Count and the \u201cBrusler\u201d carnival and get to know the history of Bruchsal from a foolish point of view.<\/p>\n

A highlight is the stairwell designed by the famous W\u00fcrzburg master builder Balthasar Neumann. In the middle of the 18th century, Prince-Bishop Franz Christoph von Hutten furnished the palace in the Rococo style: Magnificent frescoes, wall paneling and stucco as well as furniture and paintings by important artists. After the almost complete destruction in March 1945, the main building with its ballrooms was rebuilt true to the original by 1991. With the reopening of the prince-bishop’s apartments on the first floor in spring 2017, the reconstruction will be completed. Bruchsal played a role that should not be neglected during the freedom and democracy movements in the mid-19th century. Farmer leader Jo\u00df Fritz and his Bundschuh movement or the revolutionary Friedrich Hecker worked in the region. The importance of Bruchsal at that time was primarily in the penal system. The Baden revolutionaries were among the first inmates of the new \u201cGrand Ducal Male Penitentiary\u201d, which practiced a modern, reform-oriented penal system with its consistent solitary confinement. \nThe museum opened in 2003 was taken over by the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus Gengenbach. It uses exhibits to show the development and history of the kindergarten, the cr\u00e8che, the after-school care center and the training to become an educator.
\nThe development of the kindergarten is clearly explained, in particular using the example of the two pedagogues Friedrich Fr\u00f6bel (1782 – 1852) with the “toys” and the first systematic construction kit and Maria Montessori (1870 – 1952), who helped the child to be independent through the didactic material she developed wanted to stimulate. The extensive commitment of the nuns is documented, right up to the pre-school reform of the seventies. Playground equipment and furnishings show the framework conditions of earlier times.<\/p>\n

It is hard to imagine that up to 12 people from the former shoemaker family Stadtm\u00fcller once lived here. The tour gives you an insight into the history of the shoemaker’s house and the development of the art of shoemaking, as well as the restoration of the house. The tour also goes into the entire building development in the “Klostergass”.<\/p>\n

The Bruchsal journalist and author Rainer Kaufmann, who is already conducting the alternative city tour \u201cVergessenes Bruchsal\u201d for the tourist information office, has dealt intensively with all the backgrounds to this memorial and offers this in a compact tour of the memorial.
